Is your VPN complexity slowing progress?

With the massive adoption of remote work, a spotlight has been put on poor user experience. As users are already faced with massive stress due to unfamiliar working conditions, work-related stress is the least desirable outcome IT and business leaders want.

It’s time to get rid of your VPN

As an IT professional, you’re probably accustomed to user complaints about the speed and stability of their VPN connections. Employees need to quickly access systems and stream video calls but are constantly getting disconnected or experiencing disruptions of service due to poor VPN performance.

All users are impacted if they have to connect through VPNs. However, poor VPN performance especially affects users who:

  • Require real-time streaming, like video calls
  • Use applications that require low latency, like RDP and CAD
  • Operate in environments with limited bandwidth

Worse yet, as VPNs are used across on-premises and now cloud environments, managing access based on static IP addresses is also not very effective. As new IP addresses are assigned dynamically by the cloud provider, the same VPN policies must be assigned or new rules are written. This once again gives admins the time-consuming task of applying and deciphering overbearing sets of VPN rules.

Remove VPN complexity with the Cloud

Change requires moving on from the past and embracing the present.

Storing your data in the clouds makes it easy for your remote workers to access company files wherever they are; and many business owners are on board. Cloud storage moves your network to a remote location managed by a provider so that your employees can access your company files as they need over the Internet.

Cloud providers protect your data from cyber-attacks by encrypting your data while it’s stored on their drives and maintaining it that way during transport to the desktop or mobile devices. Only approved passwords can restore the data to readable files. That’s why it’s important to set guidelines for passwords; something many cloud providers do.

In choosing a cloud provider, ask about security; manageability in terms of adding and removing users and assigning access rights to folders; and of course cost – something to consider as your storage needs evolve.
